After four days, the Dow closed up by more than 400 points following a drop of almost 450 points in the midst of worldwide financial turmoil. In morning trading of September 15, 2008, U.S. stocks suffered a steep loss after news of Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc was selling itself to Bank of America Corp and the financial firm Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. At the end of the second week, Stocks opened lower as Wall Street was waiting for Washington to complete a bailout plan for the nation's battered financial markets.
