In this fourth video of the “Sortir du Cadre” (Think outside the box) Interview series, Mark Lubell gives an insight of Magnum inMotion its strategy and goes further to explore the state of the photojournalism and its future.

Mark Lubell is currently the Managing Director of Magnum. Back in 2004, he launched the Magnum’s digital magazine “inMotion” and since then redevelop Magnum’s brand and strategy on Internet. Founded in New York, in 2004, Magnum In Motion is the multimedia digital studio of Magnum Photos. In Motion assembles visual narratives for online and offline platforms, including screenings in museums, festivals, and workshops.

In this third video of the “Sortir du Cadre” (Think outside the box) Interview series, Jean Pierre Pappis talks about his experience and goes further to explore the state of the photojournalism and its future.

J.P Pappis was born and raised in Alexandria, Egypt where he received his high school diploma from the Lycee Francais in 1967. He moved to New York in 1968, attended Queens College and received a Bachelor of Arts in Literature and Philosophy. He attended graduate school in Paris, France and received a Masters Degree in Literature in 1972 from the Sorbonne University. He started his career in photography in Paris as a photographer covering news and social unrest in post May 68 France. He returned to New York in 1975 as correspondent and bureau chief of Fotolib, a photo agency based in Paris. In 1980 he joined Sygma Photo News and remained there until 2000 as Executive Editor. He then joined Gamma Press USA in New York as Editor-in-Chief until August 2002. In September 2002 Pappis started Polaris Images, a photo agency representing photographers dedicated to the coverage of news and the production of news features.

In this second video of the “Sortir du Cadre” (Think outside the box) Interview series, Paul Melcher explores the concept of “intelligent image” and goes further to explore the state of the photojournalism and its future. He explains how viral photography will help to counteract piracy in the entertainment photo industry. In the interview Paul also explains why corporations are hurting photographers.

Paul Melcher is currently Cofounder and Senior Vice President of PictureGroup, prior to that he was Director of North American Operations and Sales for Hachette Filipacchi Photo Group and V.P of sales at DigitalRailroad among many other responsabilities. Melcher also served as Director of sales at LGI Photo Agency where he built the first, high resolution, real time digital photo delivery platform. LGI was later bought by CORBIS , a Bill Gates owned company, where he held various high level executive positions. Paul is also behind “The Thoughts of a Bohemian”, an influent blog about photo industry.

In this first video of the “Sortir du Cadre” (Think outside the box) Interview series, Stephen Mayes gives an insight of the VII’s new Magazine and goes further to explore the state of the photojournalism and its future. He explains how VII approaches the market by trying to innovate and change the way photojournalism interact with the print press and Internet. In the interview Stephen Mayes also describes how, he thinks, the concepts of crossmedia and transmedia will modify the landscape of multimedia.

Stephen Mayes has worked with photography, art and journalism for 25 years. He is currently  managing director of VII Photo Agency. While director of Network Photographers, a leading independent reportage agency, Stephen chaired the World Press Photo competition and curated several photographic exhibitions, including Positive Lives, which continues to tour in four continents.

He went on to develop creative strategies for major commercial agencies, working as group creative director of Getty Images, CEO of Photonica and COO (Americas) for Image Source. As creative director of eyestorm.com, Mayes worked with many contemporary artists including Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons and Richard Misrach, and as director of the Image Archive at Art + Commerce, he represented Steven Meisel, Ellen von Unwerth, Taryn Simon and others.

He has written and broadcast extensively on the ethics and realities of photographic practice.
