In this third video of the “Sortir du Cadre” (Think outside the box) Interview series, Jean Pierre Pappis talks about his experience and goes further to explore the state of the photojournalism and its future.

J.P Pappis was born and raised in Alexandria, Egypt where he received his high school diploma from the Lycee Francais in 1967. He moved to New York in 1968, attended Queens College and received a Bachelor of Arts in Literature and Philosophy. He attended graduate school in Paris, France and received a Masters Degree in Literature in 1972 from the Sorbonne University. He started his career in photography in Paris as a photographer covering news and social unrest in post May 68 France. He returned to New York in 1975 as correspondent and bureau chief of Fotolib, a photo agency based in Paris. In 1980 he joined Sygma Photo News and remained there until 2000 as Executive Editor. He then joined Gamma Press USA in New York as Editor-in-Chief until August 2002. In September 2002 Pappis started Polaris Images, a photo agency representing photographers dedicated to the coverage of news and the production of news features.

Greece’s austerity program is ahead of targets and will ensure the country will be able to honor its commitments, Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou said. Greece is “showing better performance on our spending reductions” and has performed “better than our target was for the first six months,” Papandreou said in a radio interview today on “Bloomberg on the Economy with Tom Keene.” (read more on Business Week)

Imaginative creatures of the sea attend the 2010 Mermaid Parade at Coney Island June 19, 2010 in the Brooklyn borough of New York City.The Coney Island Mermaid Parade takes place every year in Coney Island, New York in mid-to-late June. The Parade is a lively and welcoming ocean-themed event open to everyone.
The tradition of the Coney Island Mermaid Parade began in 1983, when the first event of this kind was conceptualized and organized by Dick Zigun, who is sometimes dubbed the “Mayor of Coney Island”, and who was the founder of the non-profit arts group Coney Island USA. The Mermaid Parade is held in celebration of the beginning of the summer season, and so it traditionally takes place on the Saturday closest to the calendar start of summer, regardless of the weather.
